Volks Fest 2002

Colley Reserve Comes Alive to the Roar of the Flat Four

Preparation

For 2002, the Club made the move to Colley Reserve Glenelg. This site is very popular with South Australians and always attracts plenty of through traffic. It is close to the beach front and only a short walk from the shops of Glenelg's Jetty Road, with its wonderful tram service and a superb selection of 7 day shops.

The Festival Programme

The 2002 Festival ran from Friday 1st November to Sunday 3rd: Friday night - Club Dinner; Saturday night - Drags, Adelaide International Raceway; Sunday - VolksFest.

Adelaide laid on a typical spring day - clear blue skies and temperatures in the mid to upper 20's. The fine weather was a fitting reward for the interstate visitors who made the journey to Adelaide - including Rod Penrose, Ivy & Cario Martin and a host of others.

The Cars

The festival marked the first outing for a number of member's cars: Jon Kruger with his Oval, modified to the same style and specs as that run by his father 20 years prior; Shane Hinton with his two tone Split Window Kombi Van; Tom Laube with his rag top; Paul Robert's with his beetle. A couple of the more special project cars on display were David O'Connor's Beetle and Barry Lord's D&S.Rod Penrose's drag beetle was on display after putting on a stunning performance at the Drags on the Friday night.

Trophy Winners

To broaden the appeal of the event, the Club added a number of extra "General" trophies: Best Engine, Best Paint, Best Rat Look, Best Daily Driver. These complemented the traditional Concourse awards for best standard and custom. Prize winners on the day were:
